In this Tutorial we are going over the process to configure an additional account in Outlook for Mac, and how it works on the end-user side. Bear in mind, that if you are an Office365 customer with plans such as Office 365 Business, Office 365 Business Premium, Office 365 Enterprise E3, and E4 you do have the Outlook for Mac as part of your subscription.
Hi I have 4 computers, 2 Windows & 2 Mac OSX. The 2 Mac computers will not connect to the exchange server any more. There is no problem with the same mailboxes on windows using outlook. When I try to configure a new Entrourage account using the Automatic Setup Assistant, it seems to fail at Detecting Domain Controller. So I got through and enter the manual settings and it says 'Not Connected' I'm looking for some help in verifying Mac connection to Windows 2003 server.
Also some help with Entourage 2008 setttings. Does anyone know if there were any Windows Security patches released that is causing this problem? Any help would be great. I don't have much experience with Mac's Thanks. It's a small network.
Running Windows 2003 server as a domain controller (Global Cataloque/AD etc). It is also running exchange. The FQDN is prettypollution.local I should note again that the windows computers have no problems connecting to exchange. I can log into a Windows computer, set up and connect to Exchange and all is fine.
However when I take the same user, log into the Mac computer and try to set up Entourage to connect to exchange it says 'Exchange (Not Connected)'. It was working on Friday, nothing has really changed.
I used to be able to set up accounts Automatically, ie enter in the email address and Entourage would query and find a response. Now it seems to pause briefly at 'Detecting Domain Controller' and then it fails. Thanks for the replies. I have some more information for you. Thanks for the links STRUNG. I am still investigating these.
On Friday everything was fine. However when I came to work on Monday all my MAC computers won't connect to Exchange.
I can set these accounts up on Windows (outlook2007) computers and access them without issues, or I can connect on the Mac's using OWA however Entourage won't connect. ERROR DETAILS: When I attempt to set up a new account in Entourage I enter in all the details Email address:[email protected] Exchange server: server.prettypollution.loc al LDAP server: server.prettypollution.loc al When I verify settings I get 'Verification Failed: The end of file was reached (-39)' Some of your account settings are incorrect. Click the left arrow and verify the items highlighted in RED. When I 'click the left arrow' the 'Exchange server' setting is marked RED.
However these settings are definitely correct. I have tried server, server.prettypollution.loc al, and the IP address (all of these I can ping or resolve).
I tried putting in something that was I know is incorrect and got a different error message saying that it couldn't be found in DNS. SERVER DETAILS: Windows 2003 server, exchange 2003 server, both are on the same server. The server is also a Global Cataloque server. TROUBLESHOOTING: I can access via OWA I can use network utility to resolve and ping both (server) and (server.prettypollution.lo cal). DNS seems to be fine. I have removed the servers A record and reregistered it into DNS. I have tried clearing DNS cache, restarted DNS and the server/computers I have an HP 24 port switch.
The computers and server are plugged directly into it. There is no software firewall on the computers/server. USING TERMINAL I CAN TELNET TO THE EXCHANGE SERVER. Ie telnet server 25 This connects me to exchange and I get the standard exchange banner - 220 ESMTP Mail server etc I hope someone is able to help or provide some further tools I could use to troubleshoot a MAC connection to Exchange. I have limitted experience troubleshooting mac issues. You've not said, so I'm going to presume that the Mac is running at least Mac OS X 10.4 (update to.9 at least, which is required for Office 2008).
OS X handles '.local' differently than Windows does. Have you added: local in System Preferences Network Search Domains field?
See Entourage uses OWA to connect to the server. If you use SSL then you will need to export the certificate, and use 'Microsoft Cert Manager' in Applications/Microsoft Office 2004(or 8)/Office to import the cert.
You might also want to double-click it and add it to the X509anchors for the OS X keychain mechanism. Then, in the final field of (manual setup) Account Settings tab, 'Exchange server' use: or if no SSL Also make sure in the 'Advanced' tab to customize your LDAP port if need be, typically = 389. Thanks Heteronymous, this one was doing my head in. I've been working on it for two days. I was under the assumption that Entourage connected over SMTP.
This was the missing link in the puzzle. So when you advised of it's reliance on OWA I knew what the problem was. There was an issue with the host header setting in IIS, long story but it has to do with using Dynamic DNS and hosting a few websites by using DNS to get around my ISP need to prevent people from hosting websites. I think it's time to pay for a static IP and do this properly. I really appreciate your help with this. Thanks also to Experts-Exchange (you just justified ongoing subscription).
